Born in Fall River, a son of the late Herbert J. and Christina (Megarry) Grocott he grew up there before moving to Assonet nearly 40 years ago.
Richard worked at Aluminum Processing for a number of years before he opened and ran "Something's Cooking" in Fall River. He loved having the grandchildren around and giving encouragement to whatever they were involved with. He enjoyed watching old westerns and playing cards with the guys.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his much loved girls, Stephanie Kennedy and her husband Joseph and Melinda Grocott and her companion Rodney Santos, the wonderful children who call him Grampa, Kirsten O'Connell and her husband Michael, Matthew Skwarto, Joseph Kennedy, Alexandria Handricken and her husband Paul, and Sarah Kennedy; the little ones, Madyson, Mason and Dayton; two sisters, Judythe Fanfara and Shirley Silva, in-laws Manuel Ferreira and Catherine Terceiro as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Saturday December 5, 2015 at 8:30 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME of MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a funeral mass at 10am in St. Bernard's Church, 30 S. Main Street, Assonet. Burial will follow in Assonet Burial Grounds. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1942 or please feed someone in need of assistance.
