DICK BESS Richard George “Dick” Bess, age 81, of Altamont, passed away December 8, 2015, at his home surrounded by his wife and all of his children, after a battle with leukemia. He was born January 10, 1934, in Cedar City, to John W. and Ramona Bacon Bess. He left high school early to enlist in the US Airforce and was stationed primarily in Germany as an aircraft tech. He married Vera Lee Prigmore on January 28, 1956, in Murray. Dick worked all of his life as a plumber and owned Dick Bess Plumbing. He was recognized last year as the oldest-living licensed and active plumber in the state. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and within the last year was able to draw out and harvest his prize elk and land a 130 pound Halibut. He was a firm believer in “the one with the most toys, WINS!” His life should have ended five years ago from a massive aneurism rupture, but he was able to not only get well, but was back to normal shortly after. He was a member of the LDS Church. He loved his family and doing things with them. He had lots of friends and liked a good, fast truck! Dick is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Vera; children, Robert (Chris) Bess, both of Altamont; Dick Jr. (RaDonna) Bess, Layne (Sandra) Bess, both of Talmage; Pamela (Tim) Carroll, Cindy (Tyler) Webb, both of Altonah; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; brothers, Michael Bess, OK; John (Kathy) Bess, South Jordan; David (Debbie) Bess, Indianola, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Larry and Robert; and an infant sister, Betty Bess. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Altamont LDS Stake Center where a viewing will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Altamont Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com The family would like to thank the nurses at the Ashley Regional Medical Center Out Patient Services for their loving care.
