My Birth Certificate will read that I was born in Brown County. That would be wrong because I was born in Mills County at our home in Mills County about 6 miles South West of Indian Creek Texas. The Doctor listed me by mistake being born in Brown County.

Johnny was born April 15, 1936 at home just 6 miles southwest of Indian Creek, Texas in Mills County. He was the 4th child of John Calvin and Cora Irene (Goins) Egger. He was a cute baby with red hair and blue eyes. He went to school in Brooksmith and Brownwood public schools. Growing up on the farm he pulled cotton and plowed in the field. After school and on weekends he would help his mom and dad around the house. Sometimes they would go down to the creek and go fishing. He really enjoyed that. He bought his first car when he was nine years old. It was a model A with a rumble seat.

One day a beautiful young lady caught his eye. Her name was Billie. They began to date and really enjoyed going out to dances and carnivals in Brownwood, having fun together. One time as a joke he flicked his cigarette ashes into her snow cone. He was always telling jokes and making people laugh. They married October 13, 1953. They were blessed with a daughter born August 15, 1954. He worked for the Queen, Palace, and Ritz theaters in downtown Brownwood running the projectors.

On November 11, 1954 he married Betty Jane Cagle. They lived in Brownwood and were blessed with three sons. Johnny worked at the Texas Brick Plant and also served honorably in the Texas National Guard. He and his cousin J C Egger, who was more like a brother to him, owned and operated three Gulf gas stations, including the Egger's Holiday Inn Gulf Station next to the old Holiday Inn on East Commerce/ Highway 377. He and Jane also owned and operated the Industrial Cafe. His next job was working for Arrow Coach Lines, later known as Arrow Trailways of Texas, as a tour bus driver. He traveled all over the USA and parts of Canada for 25 years. He really enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. This was his favorite job of all the jobs he had during his life. During his summer vacations he, Jane, their children, and so many of the Cagle family with their kids would go camping on the banks of the Colorado River for about 2 weeks. They went swimming and fished most of the day and had a big fish fry in the evenings. There must have been about 30 people (maybe more) including all the kids camping out each summer. What fun times those were! He, Jane, and Travis also took a trip to Colorado and enjoyed the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. In 1979 he, Jane, Travis, and Jane's sister Sarah took a trip from Texas to Connecticut to visit Savanah and her husband. They made many enjoyable stops along the way to enjoy the beauty of the USA.

On December 13, 1984 he married Flora Mae Thomas in Cross Plains, Texas,. They made their home in Abilene for many years. Johnny drove an 18-wheel truck for the Pat Salmon Company for 28 years, hauling the U.S. mail. He and Flora took fun vacations to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri many times.

He loved music very much and had a large collection of albums and tapes including many Country & Western artists from the 50s and 60s, plus Elvis Presley, Gospel albums, Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass, The Sufaris (Wipe Out), Booker T and the MGs (Green Onions.) I remember as a kid growing up he was always playing really cool music. He instilled in me the love of music. He also enjoyed collecting Case Knives and had over 200 in his collection!

He made friends easily everywhere he went and carried many of those friendships throughout his lifetime. He could tell a joke better than anyone and would leave everyone laughing out loud. He is sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
