Esther was born on May 28, 1922, in Wayland, IA, the daughter of Edward and Neoma (Christner) Schantz. She married Clarence "Sonny" A. Seagren, Jr. on November 3, 1945 in Dixon. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2013. Esther served in the Womens' Army Corp during WWII at Schick General Hospital in Clinton, IA. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Dixon, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Esther was known for baking the best pies in town, and worked part time at Russell's Bakery. Esther also volunteered her time at KSB Hospital.
Esther will mostly be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Survivors include three daughters, Carole (Michael) Scarantino of Dixon, Linda (David) Boehme of Dixon, and Susan Packer-Devine of Rock Falls; one son, Charles Seagren, of Rock Falls; two sisters-in-law, Renae Lothman, and Darlene Zerbe; 12 grandchildren, Tani (Greg) Long, Brian (Tisha) Seagren, Sarah Seagren, Elizabeth (Eric) Thompson, Christie (Doug) Wood, Alicia (Todd) Carlson, Josef (Christine) Scarantino, Carmen Sander, Carissa (Tavo) Vilchis, Jacob (Emily) Packer, Alina (Mark) Lofgren, and Michael (Becky) Packer; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Esther was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church, Dixon, with Rev. Bunyon Cocar, pastor, officiating.
Burial with full military honors by the combined veterans organizations will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon, Lee County, IL.
Memorials have been established to the First Baptist Church, Dixon, and The American Cancer Society.
