Born in Wilmington, DE on July 18, 1935, and raised in the Delaware City area, she was a daughter of the late Harold Benjamin and Marietta (Downs) Prettyman.
Janice worked as a young woman waitressing, hostessing, and being a banquet manager at both the Greenville Country Club and the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Later in life, she worked at the University of Delaware as an office aide. Janice's most proud accomplishment in business was being a bank teller/manager and an electronic point technician for Mellon Financial.
Janice was a very spiritual soul. She had a love for nature, flowers, and also angels. She often read "The Book of Psalms". Her favorite was Psalm 23:4, and her favorite religious songs were "In the Garden" and "One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus".
Janice Marie will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She once said "My heart bursts with love for my children and grandchildren".
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Nelson. She is survived by her children from her first marriage, Mary, Diane, Richard, and Michael (Judith); 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
All services and inurnment at St. George's Cemetery will be held privately.
