James Nelson Perkins, son of the late Jeremiah and Samantha Cole Perkins was born in Knott County, Kentucky on May 11, 1873. He died at his home near Moko, Ark., on October 3, 1960 at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 22 days. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at the State Line Church with Rev. James Barnett and Rev. Ray Hall both of West Plains, Mo., officiating. Burial was in the State Line cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Service of Salem. Pallbearers were bill Sills, Walter Spoor, Junior Revis, Virgil Maguffee, Jewell Skaggs and Homer Pollard. He was united in marriage to Ritty Oliver in Floyd County, Kentucky on March 24, 1893. Eighteen children were born. He was preceded in death by eight of his children. Survivors are his companion, of the home near Moko, three sons; Hasadore Perkins of Camp, Ark., Lloyd Perkins, of Lanton, Mo., and Johnnie Perkins of Los Angeles, Calif., seven daughters; Mrs. Ed Burke of Haskell, Okla., Mrs. Cordelia Shirley of Bigaby, Okla., Mrs. H. E. White of Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Edna Edgin of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Julian Oliver of Delhi, La., Mrs. Virgil McCormick of Manila, Ark., and Mrs. Ernest Holloway of Lanton, Mo. Sixty-two grandchildren, a large number of great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Mr. Perkins had been a member of the Pentecost Church for some forty-nine years.
