Leonard Edward Swope, 86, of Sedalia, Missouri, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Laurie Care Center, Laurie, Missouri. He was born, November 27, 1919, in Pettis County, a son of Frank and Edith Swope Bradbury. In January of 1942, he married Margie Colvin, who preceded him in death, in July of 1975. He later married Hazel Austin, who survives in Laurie Care Center. Mr. Swope was a member of First Baptist Church and served as President of the board for Farm Mutual of Pettis County. He was an United States Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and had lived in Sedalia and Benton County area all of his life. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hutsler and her husband Warren, of Camdenton and Donna Lutjen, of Springfield; a brother, Orville Swope, of El Paso, TX; two sisters, Mary Stevenson, of Smithton and Leota Wehmeyer, of Mora; seven grandchildren, Terry Viebrock, Tammy Stanek, Bill Howard, Rhonda Reese, Scott Howard, Timothy Viebrock, and Neal Hutsler; 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandsons. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Drew Hill officiating. Pallbearers were Terry Viebrock, Bill Howard, Scott Howard, Timothy Viebrock, Neal Hutsler and Justin Reese. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2591 conducted full military honors at the graveside. Friends called and the family received friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home.
