"He learned the harness-maker's trade when a boy, and removed in 1825 with his mother to Wadsworth, Ohio. In 1850 he went overland to California, and a year or two later returned to Ohio via the Isthmus. He was afterwards a house painter. About 1857 he removed with his family to Hiram, Ohio. In 1878 he was living in Peoria, Illinois."
