James Adams's will was signed and dated July 1, 1818 and was recorded Aug 3, 1818 for the probate. The will was witnessed by David Allen and Jacob C. Lansing, and names his five children: Ann Alida, George Washington, Catherine Lansing, James Elisha, Elizabeth. He appointed Abraham L. Lansing and his brother Jacob E. Adams as executors. David Allen, James Reid and Jacob Lansing were witnesses."
