A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Effie Howell Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Dale Parton; a son, Jack Parton; and two brothers, Lowell "Buddy" Edwards and Joe D. Edwards.
Doris retired after 27 years of nursing from Haywood Regional Medical Center and was a member of Barberville Baptist Church.
Doris is survived by three daughters, Amelia Bumgarner and her husband, Dexter, of Clyde, Daurice Metcalf and her husband, Stanley, of Canton, and Susan Brown and her husband, Reid, of Asheville; six grandchildren, Leanna Racquer, Ame Swanger, Emily Metcalf, Laura Davis, Cabe Carver and Isacc Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Reid and Kasey Marsh, Jaxon Swanger and Jack Carver.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
