Daniel G. Contreras, (PoPo), 84 of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 26, 2006 from complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was born on March 30, 1922 in Campbellton, Texas. He served his country with the Navy during World War II and retired from the Naval Base after more than thirty years of service. After losing his wife of 63 years, Adelaida (WaWa) Contreras to cancer on March 15 of this year, Dad was lonely without Mom and wished deeply to be with her once again.

PoPo's love of cooking BBQ earned him legendary status and was a family tradition. On Sundays, he could be found wearing one of his favorite shirts, which he customized by cutting the sleeves off. PoPo and WaWa were tremendous examples of family and togetherness and will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Chavez (Alonzo), Suzanne S. Contreras, Dianna C. Galvan (Antonio); sons, Richard S. Contreras (Elva), Daniel Contreras, Jr. (Amanda). Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Contreras, his remains will be cremated and there will be a memorial service to honor him.
