Mrs. Laura E. Derby, 64, Dalton Gardens (Idaho) died Monday in a Spokane Hospital. She was born Oct. 2, 1912, at Lynch Neb. and was graduated from business College and beauty college at Rapid City, S.D. The former Laura LaPrath and Raymond Kane were married in 1930 at Rapid City. They moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1945 from Sandpoint. Mr. Kane died in 1958. Mrs. Derby, who owned and operated Kane's Beauty Salon and College, was married to Fred Derby Oct. 1961. At the time of her death Mrs. Derby was associated with Derby-Kane Realty Co. She was a member of the Coeur d'Alene Board of Realtors. Survivors are her widower; four sons, Tom of Coeur d'Alene, Terry of Bremerton, Wash., and Tim and Mike of Eagle River, Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. William Marsh of Spokane and Mrs. Gary Scales of Phoenix. two sisters, Nonna Sommerfeld and Leona Sacht of Sandpoint; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane, Wash. Yates Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

After first marriage, family located in Clarksfork, ID. There were 6 children. She later married Fred Derby, there were no more children, though Fred had some of his own. A Laura Derby is listed in the SSA records as born on Oct 12, 1912 - issued card in SD, died in ID Oct 1976, living in Coeur d'Alene # 503-09-0640. Laura ran a hair dressing salon in Coeur d'Alene, plus a number of beauty shops in other cities and a training school. Laura was also a bit of a psychic and used the sideline of fortune telling to simulate business in her salons. She once cut Bing Crosby's hair.
