Mr. Howard William Harrell, 84, of Life Care of Banner Elk and Valle Crucis community, died Friday afternoon, February 4, 2000, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 30, 1915, in Watauga County, to Jacob and Virgie Byer Harrell.

Mr. Harrell was employed by Valle Crucis Elementary School as a cafeteria worker and bus driver.

Survivors include two sons, two daughters, two grandsons, one brother, and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Hodges Harrell, three sisters, Ruby Kovac, Marjorie Rabon and Edith Townsend and two brothers, Bobby and Henry Harrell.

Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Reverend Jerry McCoury. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

Austin & Barnes Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
