Jean "John" Thibodeaux was one of the children born to Adonis Thibodeaux and his wife Irma Lorinor Labauve. John's brother Pierre was his twin. John was employed as a carpenter for the majority of his work life.

John was united in marriage in 1888 in West Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Leocadie Lejeune. John and Leocadie were blessed with the birth of at least seven children during their marriage:
