"Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Heindel will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary Friday, December 12. Mr. Heindel, who passed his eightieth birthday December 9, was born at Windsor, Pa., and came to Freeport, Ill., in 1889, where he was married to Miss Lenora Rehbock of that city on December 12, 1891, by the Rev. H.A. Ott, pastor of the English Lutheran church. She was born in Freeport, August 29, 1871. They resided in Freeport until September 9, 1893, when they moved to Stockton, living here since that time. Mr. Heindel entered the painting and decorating business, which he still operates.
An active member of the Evangelical church, he was superintendent of the Sunday school 28 years, director of Oakdale camp grounds 30 years and member of the board of trustees of the Evangelical church for 36 years, the past 20 years as president of the board. Mr. and Mrs. Heindel have three sons, Spencer of Dixon, Ill., Freeman of Sterling and Chester of Stockton and five grandchildren.
They were presented a floral offering at the Sunday morning church services and an anniversary dinner at the home of Chester Heindel Sunday was attended by all the family excepting two grandsons, Robert Heindel, attending the University of Illinois and Duane Heindel, who is attending the University of Iowa. A dinner in their honor Monday evening at the home of Rev. and Mrs. E.E. Schaefer was shared with Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Eade who recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, and attended by the trustees of the church and their wives.
Mr. and Mrs. Heindel have been honored residents of Stockton for nearly fifty years, casting their lot with the infant village six years after its founding, and have since accumulated a great many friends, here and elsewhere, who are happy that they have attained fifty years of wedded life together, and that they are enjoying good health. Mr. Heindel has been a genial figure on our streets daily, and steps along as easily as ever. In fact, until the last year or two, he has handled some of his painting contracts personally, wielding the brush himself."
