Altus “Shorty” Doshier, age 101, of Yellville, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Creekside Health and Rehab in Yellville.

Mr. Doshier was born August 20, 1914 in the Ralph community. His parent, Mr. and Mrs. Harve Doshier, were lifelong residents of the Yellville area. He was a graduate of Yellville-Summit High School.

He married Wanda Smith of the Bruno community on August 20. 1938. The ceremony was officiated by Justice of the peace D. S. Nowlin. They were married 70 years until her death in 2008. In the 1950’s they moved to Flint, Michigan, where Al (Shorty) was employed by Sentry Insurance.

After retiring in 1975, they returned to Yellville. Retirement was spent hunting and fishing, and later as mayor of Yellville. During his more than 15 years as mayor he often said, “I have the best retirement in the world.”

Mr. Doshier was a long-standing member of Yellville United Methodist Church, Yellville Masonic Lodge #117, and Eastern Star Mountain Home Chapter 202.

He is survived by his children: Suzanne Thomason of Fort Smith; and Kenneth Doshier and his wife, Dorothy, of Mesa, Arizona;

his grandchildren: Lori Barnhart and her husband, Sterling, of Lennon, Michigan; Craig Doshier of Flint, Michigan; and Elizabeth Downey and her husband, Reid, of Seattle, Washington;

three great-grandchildren: Sean Barnhart, Kayla Doshier, and Kristin Doshier;

one brother, Jimmy Clyde Doshier of Wichita, Kansas;

one sister-in-law, Mary Frances Clem; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Doshier will be Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at Burns Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Hudson officiating.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Yellville.

Pallbearers will be Bob Doshier, John Doshier, Mike Doshier, Rob Doshier, Daryl Doshier, Gary Clem, David Smith, and Mark Doshier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Verl Doshier and Kenneth Smith.
