WILLARD ALGER Obituary
BILL ALGER Willard "Bill" Andrew Alger, of Reno, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015.
Bill was born May 31, 1929, in Enterprise, Utah, to Willard Edgar and Iona Fern Alger.
His father died when he was three and his mother married his uncle, Herbert Alger.
Bill joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1946, just before the end of World War II.
He was one of the first troops into Japan, earning the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal for Japan.
In 1949, Bill married Clara Dean Sylvester, in Pioche. He became a fireman with the North Las Vegas Fire Department and then a carpenter, working on many of the old Las Vegas hotels, including finishing the Landmark for Howard Hughes. He liked to hunt, fish and camp.
He also loved dancing, playing guitar, and playing practical jokes.
He and Clara divorced but had six children.
He married Clare Robey Snowden in 1977.
They lived in Las Vegas and then Caliente, operating a restaurant, and a second-hand store before moving to Pahrump.
Due to health reasons, he lived with his son, David, in Reno, at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
four brothers; and son, Willard.
Bill is survived by his children, Jerrilee, David, Andrew (Maggie), Gina, Jon Lee, and Robert; stepchildren, Cynthia, Jim and Dan; brothers, Jerry and Herbert; sisters, Beverly and Pauline; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were previously held Saturday, Nov. 14, in Reno.
Full military burial to be held at a later date.
