At the time of the 1870 Federal Census, William L. Wood, wife Nancy, and three of his children were living in Towns County, Georgia. He was almost eighty years old. Descendants say he died sometime after 1870 in Towns County, Georgia and is buried at Lower Hightower Baptist Church, Hiawassee where other members of his family are buried. His tombstone is no longer visible in this cemetery.
