BEARD, John, 18, was stricken and fell over an embankment into 10 feet of water in a quarry hole in Martinsburg on January 8 and drowned. A companion, Melvin STARLIPER, 17, attempted to rescue BEARD and narrowly escaped a similar fate. BEARD, who was the principal support of his mother and seven sisters and brothers, was hunting for empty bottles, intending to sell them to local merchants.
