Bernice F. Allen, 78, of Winterset, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 of complications of abdominal surgery at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services were held Jan. 12 at Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter, with burial at Booneville Cemetery in Booneville.

Bernice F. Allen was born Aug. 7, 1923, to Ben and Estella (Powers) Henson of St. Marys and had lived there and in the Dexter area before moving to Winterset in 1964. . She married Darrell Allen on Dec. 8, 1946, in Des Moines. She was a retired nurse's aide, who had worked at various Winterset area care centers and a member of the First Baptist Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, three brothers and a grandson.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Capps (husband Lewis) of Winterset and Carol Blanchard (husband Roger) of Springfield, Mo.; two sons, Ben Allen (wife Carol) of St. Charles and Darrell Allen (wife Kim) of Winterset; three sisters, Dorothy Bussanmas of Des Moines, Evonne Senhen (husband Larry) of Winterset and Lorraine Bingaman (husband Alan) of Waukee; 11 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.
