The son of Ervie and Alice Meldren, he was born at Brooklyn on April 29, 1929. He married Dixie Allen in October 1956 in Omaha, Neb. He had lived in DeSoto for about 12 years and lived at Van Meter prior to that. He had recently been employed by Von Maur Department Store in West Des Moines after having retired from Penn-Dixie Cement, where had worked for 30 years. He also served in the U. S. Navy between 1946 and 1950.
Mr. Meldrem was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, David.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie; a son, Terrell of Van Meter; a daughter, Vickie McDowell of Grinnell; two step-daughters, Connie Thompson of Van Meter and Denise Forret of Adel; a brother, Gaylord Meldrem of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Mona Thompson of Truth of Consequences, N.M. and Karen Mason of Ames; and 16 grandchildren.
