From FIRST 100 YEARS NOLAN COUNTY, TEXAS (published 1985 by the Nolan County Genealogical Society):

AARON R. SANDERS (Page 344)

Aaron R. Sanders, of Scotch-Irish descent, was born in Arkansas July 25, 1853. He and Cynthia Ann Barksdale were married October 21, 1879. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, December 2, 1858.

They were living in Fort Worth, Texas, when they decided to move to the Divide in Nolan County. Aaron and the older boys moved in the wagon, while Cynthia and the little children came on a train to Sweetwater. This family settled in the Dora community by 1887.

Aaron Sanders was a hard-working, prosperous stock farmer. He was elected trustee in the Dora School District #6 on April 5, 1902.

This family did not live continuously on the farm, but a different times lived in Sweetwater in order to secure educational advantages for their children.

During the years they lived in Sweetwater, Aaron Sanders was engaged in the real estate business. He served as mayor for more than one term. He also served the city for several years as one of its commissioners, and during this time, many blocks of paving and sidewalks were constructed. Much other improvement and town building was done under his supervision.

He was one of the strongest advocates of better education in Nolan County, having given each of his nine children a splendid education. He served for a number of years on the school board of Sweetwater.

His old-time friends who knew him best maintained that for thirty-one years, Sanders enjoyed the reputation of being a big man, a good man and a splendid citizen.

A few years before he died, he sold his stock and farms.

Aaron R. Sanders died at his home on January 7, 1919. Cynthia died on February 1, 1947.

Aaron's mother was Sarah Martha Sanders, who lived with him and his family. She was born in 1833 and died on August 20, 1918.

Children of the Aaron Sanders family were: William Daniel (Bob), Charles Franklin, Weaver B., Carroll Malcolm (who married Ruby Montgomery), Sarah Leona (who married Robert A. Linn), Aaron C. (Bud), Josephine Lela (who married Price G. Crum), Kathyrine Anne (who married William E. Pool) and Lillian (who married J. Hood Brown).
