Jim Thornton, age 77 passed away Thursday November 19th at the Jean Waddle Hospice Center in Somerset. He is the husband of Mary Slagle Thornton and the father of; Terry Thornton Frye and the late Sheila Thornton Koontz.

The funeral service will be 5 PM Sunday in the Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 PM Sunday until the service time at 5.

Feb. 17, 1938—Nov. 19, 2015 Jim Thornton was born February 17, 1938, the son of the late Claude and Willie Carrender Thornton. He departed this life Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Unit in Somerset.

On March 30, 1956, he united in marriage with Mary Slagle, who survives. To this union two daughters were born.

Surviving is Terry and her husband Richard Frye; and his daughter—Sheila Koontz passed away December 4, 2011. Also surviving is his son-in-law—Randal Koontz; grandchildren— Marrisa and Bethany Frye, and Zachary and Jordan Koontz; great- grandchildren—Ethan, Riley and Max Koontz; and his sister—Eula Clary. He is also preceded in death by his siblings—Anna Cloud, Sophie Morris, Roy, Ralph and Bob Thornton.

Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Bob Duranceau and Bro. Burney Manning officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Hickey and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
