Betty June (Druck) Messersmith of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Sweetser, Indiana passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Home in Evansville, Indiana.

Betty was born in Meir, Indiana on October 21, 1930. She was the oldest child of her parents Alfred and Mabel Druck.

Betty graduated from Sweetser High School and maintained contacts with many of her classmates throughout the years. She also was a long time member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed her Sunday School Class, and her classmates.

Betty retired at age 70 after a long career at United Technologies (Thompson Electronics) in both Converse, Indiana and Huntington, Indiana plant locations. She made many lasting friendships while working there and shared with her family the many fond memories of her fun times with her team members.

Betty was raised on the family farm where she quickly developed a love for and interest in animals and plants of all kinds. As a result, she enjoyed gardening, growing and tending to her many indoor and outdoor houseplants. She also enjoyed feeding and caring for the birds in the neighborhood and for Karen’s Cat “PK”.

Betty truly enjoyed the Christmas season. To her, there was nothing better than her beautiful tree with her family gathered around it opening presents. She also loved evening holiday drives throughout the countryside to see homes bedecked with Christmas lights and leisurely walks along the Mississinewa River Walk Of Christmas Lights.

Most of all Betty enjoyed being with her family especially her kids and grandkids. She beamed with pride whenever she was with them and always greeted them with plenty to eat and drink and her undivided attention whenever they were together. She was especially fond of watching her grandkids participate in sports, school activities and church Christmas programs.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Alfred (1979) and Mabel (2001) Druck and her brother, Alfred Druck, Jr who died in infancy.

Betty is survived by her sons Ron (Joyce) Messersmith of Evansville, Indiana, Jim Messersmith of Columbus, Ohio, Rich (Alicia) Messersmith of Bainbridge, Georgia, daughter Karen Yonts of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, grandchildren Kurt (Shanna) Messersmith, Kelly (Jeremy) Salee, and Kyle (Kara) Messersmith, and great grandchildren Jada Paul, Evan and Cody Messersmith and Colton and Carter Salee. She is also survived by sisters Virginia, Joyce, Alice (Leland) Richey and Helen Bradley and brothers Ralph (Pat) Druck and Roy Druck and many nieces and nephews.

Betty’s family would like to give a special thank you to The Good Samaritan Home and Heritage Hospice for their loving care and compassion.

Services will be held at 12 noon (EST) on Friday at Mount Olive United Methodist Church at 2015 N 300 W in Marion, Indiana 46952. Visitation 10 am to noon (EST).
