Joe Bowen Dies in Sweetwater
Joe Bowen, 55, Sweetwater druggist, formerly of Coleman, died Sunday in the Sweetwater Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Methodist Church with Dr. J. Edmund Kirby officiating. Burial will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mr. Bowen was born in Coleman Aug. 1, 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Bowen. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and the School of Optometry of Peoria, Ill. He moved from Coleman to Sweetwater about 1919, opening a drug store there in 1925. The same year, he married the former Thelma Howard in Sweetwater.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judy; one brother, Floyd M. Bowen of Lubbock; six sisters, Mrs. Cora Orr of Fort Worth, Mrs. Claude Gough of Dallas, Mrs. G.B. Davidson of San Antonio, Mrs. J.B. Warren of Coleman, Mrs. Blanche Beakley and Mrs. Bob Richards of Long Beach, Calif.
Other Coleman survivors include Pat and John Warren, Mrs. Hayden Hargett, all cousins, and a nephew, Robert I. Bowen, Jr.
