Bobby, died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born a son of the late Robert Shepard Burnett and Lucille Boushee` Burnett. Mr. Burnett attended New Hanover High School and was employed at the North Carolina Shipyard during World War II. He began a career in law enforcement in 1955, at the Wrightsville Beach Police Department. He was employed with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Department and retired with twenty years of service. He was a fifty year resident of Wrightsville Beach and loved the waters where he enjoyed fishing and shrimping on his boat. He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge and an avid card player.
Bobby is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Ruth, who would die 8 months later, a daughter, Robbie Burnett Hodges and husband Glenn; a grandson, Tate Burnett Hodges all of Wilmington; a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Burnett Zepkin and husband Gene; and a niece, Paula B. Saunders and husband William all of Newport News, VA.
