He was married 1st on February 4, 1869 in Marshall County to Cynthia Quinley. His 2nd marriage was probably in late May 1880 to Benlipilla(?) B -- , who was born about 1857: John was again a widower by the time of the 1900 census.
A retired carpenter living at 400 Main Street in Martin, Tennessee, John was 64 years old and a widower when he died at home of TB of the spinal column on March 29, 1920. Burial was March 30th in [Gardner Cemetery,] Gardner, Tennessee.
