Jay Hugh Alexander of Idabel, Oklahoma, age 89, passed away in Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas November 17, 2015. He was born the son of Holly and Jewell Alexander on December 15, 1925 in Bear Creek, Alabama.

Jay has lived in McCurtain County since 1936 and is a retired farmer and rancher. In his earlier years, he was one of the oldest members in Oklahoma of the International Rodeo Association where he competed in saddle bronc riding and roping. Thereafter, he turned to being a Rodeo Pick Up man for the International Rodeo Association along with being a member of the National Rifle Association. He was also affiliated with the 1st Christian Church in Idabel, Oklahoma. Jay loved nothing more than to go fishing, hunting, camping, attending rodeos’, riding horses and spending time with friends and family.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert Alexander and E.J. Alexander and one sister, Wanda Crockett.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Hurst of Idabel, Oklahoma, one brother, Ulverd Alexander and wife Jean of Vernon, Texas, two grandchildren, Evondail Strickland and husband Stephen of McAlester, Oklahoma and J.L. Gordon Hurst and wife Stephanie of Beeville, Texas, four great grandchildren, Jeffery Allen Hurst and wife Brittney of Corpus Christie, Texas, Lucinda Heikkinen and husband J.R. of Weleetka, Oklahoma, Jason Hurst and wife Ashley of San Angelo, Texas and Justin Hurst and wife Audrey of Beeville, Texas along with eight great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Norwood-Nation Chapel. Service will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Norwood-Nation Chapel. Interment will be at Denison Cemetery.
