COAL TOWNSHIP — Kenneth C. Etzel Jr., 81, of 260 Route 2026, Coal Run, passed away at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at his son's residence.
He was born in Trevorton, May 16, 1932, a son of the late Katie and Claude Kenneth Etzel.
He attended school in Trevorton and later served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On Nov. 30, 1957, in St. Anthony Church, Ranshaw, he married Alice T. Domanski, who preceded him in death Jan. 19, 1997.
Kenneth owned and operated Etzel Trucking. After retiring from the trucking business, he became a deputy sheriff for Northumberland County.
He was a life member and past president of Brady Fire Co.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to camp at Little Mexico Campground.
Kenneth was the last of his family.
Surviving are his sons, Kenneth and his wife, Debbie, of Coal Run, and Michael and his wife, Janet, of Ranshaw; five grandchildren, Kenny and his wife, Lisa, of Coal Township, Cheryl Etzel, of Kulpmont, Patrick Holleran, of Ranshaw, Caitlin Holleran and her fiance, Nicholas Pita, of Coal Run, and Michelle Etzel, of Ranshaw; four great-grandchildren, Bryce and Andrew Adams, Camden Tripp and Peyton Etzel, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In keeping with Kenneth's wishes, the funeral service will remain private. Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, has charge of arrangements.
