Jefferson County Journal September 25 1888

The Funeral of Mrs. Elisha Hill was the home of her son', Jerome Hill, last Saturday, conducted by Rev Mr Rice, of Watertown, a well-known Universalist minister of that city. The deceased was the widow of the late Elisha Hill, one of the early settlers of the town, whose father was one of the pioneers into the unbroken wilderness of the Black River country.- She was the daughter of the venerable Asa, known as Quaker Brown, who died at the age of 93 years, and enjoys the reputation in Hough's History of Jefferson County of being the strongest man of any of his contemporaries in the town of Ellisburg. He had a family of stalwart sons who aided him in clearing most of the land in this region. The deceased was about 83 years of age and possessed those sterling traits of character usually conspicuous in the early settlers of a new country. The funeral was quite largely attended, among the relatives being Mrs. Waterman Brown and daughter and Mrs. Dr. Merrill, of Carthage.
