Stephen C. Hancharik, formerly of Ottsville, Pa., passed away Monday in Bedminster Township at the home of his son, where he had resided for the past two years. He was 88.

He was born Dec. 26, 1926 in Ottsville, a son of the late John and Mary Kovacs Hancharik.

Steve was a World War II Marine Corps veteran serving with the rank of Sergeant in the Third Amphibious Corps and stationed in the South Pacific.

For over 60 years, he was the owner and operator of Stephen C. Hancharik & Sons in Ottsville.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ottsville, where he lectored for many years and was a member and officer of the former St. John the Baptist Society.

He was a charter member, past grand knight and 4th degree knight of Fr. Stommel Council #4545, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of American Legion Post #280, Perkasie, Pa. and VFW Post #175, Doylestown, Pa.

He was an avid vegetable gardener.

He is survived by five children and their spouses, Stephanie and Bruce Markley, Cheryl and Stephen Kuchera, Mark and Kathleen Hancharik, Michelle and Byron Rojas and David and Nina Hancharik; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, who died in 2011 and with whom he had been married to for 64 years and son, Douglas, who died in 1965. His brothers, Bill, John, Andrew and Joseph, and his sisters, Anna Gresh and Mary Hulak, also preceded him in death.

His Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, Nov. 13, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ottsville. He is interred in St. John Cemetery.
