Charles N. MacCorkle, 90, of Norton , passed away on Thursday February 16, 2012 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane E.(Gillespie) MacCorkle who died on July 31, 2009.

Born in Somerville, MA on September 13, 1921, he was a son of the late John and Myrtle (Jenness) MacCorkle. He grew up and was educated in Somerville.

During WWII, he faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard. Prior to being honorably discharged, he served aboard the LST 261 and also helped to guard the coast, off of Virginia, in threat of enemy sub attacks.

After marrying his late wife on December 1, 1946, Mr. MacCorkle worked as a baker and cook at area establishments including the Waldorf in Boston. He later worked at Tower Iron Works in Rhode Island, and prior to retiring was employed for many years as a spot welder.

A resident of Norton for the past 58 years, he was a supporter of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and was also a member of the Amphibious Veterans of Massachusetts.

Mr. MacCorkle enjoyed spending time with family. His greatest passion in life was collecting and rebuilding model trains. Many family outings were spent marveling over trains and trips to Edaville Railroad in Carver, during the Christmas season, was always a happy occasion. For his lifelong of trains, he was affectionately known by family and friends as “Choo Choo Charlie”

He is survived by his devoted daughters; Janice I. MacCorkle and her fiancé Jay Fenton of Bridgewater and Nancy J. Place of Ohio. The dear brother of the late Harold MacCorkle, Robert MacCorkle and Marion Foulds, he is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Melissa Place and her husband Raymond Lee and Derek Place all of Ohio.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum in North Attleboro MA.
