Captain Carroll was a member of the 355th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 31st Tactical Fighter Wing, Tuy Hoa Airbase, South Vietnam. On November 2, 1969, he was the navigator of a North American Super Sabre Fighter (F-100F) on a mission over the Ho Chi Minh Trail, Laos. His aircraft failed to meet with a refueling aircraft and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
