Frank Thorp, born in the town of Wayland about 1854, was a son of James and Lydia Yerton Thorp. He married Mary Ella Henderson, and they had daughters, Julia (Julia Mehlenbacher) and Nora (Nora Whitford Burleson Bowles), and sons Frank Jr. and Jay. Mary Ella Thorp may also be buried in this cemetery. About 1890, Mr. Thorp moved from Cohocton to Hector where he developed a very successful fruit farm business. Mr. Thorp’s second wife was Belle Barrett whom he married about 1889. Their known children were daughters, Jessie (Jessie Sheppard of Hornell) and Gertrude (Gertrude Baxter of Howard). Belle Thorp later married Fred Clark. Mr. Thorp then married Helen Johnson who survived him.

The funeral of the late Frank Thorp of Burdette was held at the church in this place last Sunday afternoon. Rev. E.S. Hill of the South church officiated. Mr. Thorp was formerly a resident of Potter Hill, and was well known in this vicinity...The burial was in Lakeside cemetery. The deceased was 64 years of age and is survived by a widow, four children and several grandchildren. He was a brother of Albert Thorp of Potter Hill, and Mrs. Gray of Washington state.
