Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Patricia Melvina Jones Rock VanderSteen Munson, 80, returned to loving arms of her Heavenly Father and those she loved and missed for so long on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She spent her finals hours surrounded by the deep and never ending love of her family. Patti was born April 20, 1935 in Brigham City, Utah, the third daughter of four children, to Lewis Howell and Lucille Reeves Jones. A portion of her joyful childhood included living and attending school in Hawaii, while her father served as Judge Advocate in the US Army. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1954. On November 20, 1952, Patti married her high school sweetheart, Jesse Ronald Rock. Together they raised five children, Becky, Lisa, Ron, Steve and Jon. After they divorced, Patti married the love of her life, John Ray VanderSteen on December 9, 1977. Unfortunately, their marriage was cut short by the untimely death of Ray on August 26, 1979; she never fully recovered from this tremendous loss. She was deeply blessed to meet Ernest Munson and they were married June 10, 1990. He died tragically in an auto-pedestrian accident on November 29, 1994. During her lifetime, Patti was a compassionate care giver. She worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Cooley Memorial Hospital and went on to become a Home Health Aide. She enjoyed and excelled in nurturing, caring and assisting those in need. Her favorite times were spent with her family at her home in Bear Lake. She loved the peaceful, beautiful surroundings and the enjoyment of her family. Many happy family memories were made courtesy of Mom. She also enjoyed trips to Jackson Hole, Newport Beach, St. George and visiting family in Las Vegas. The light and joy in her life were her many pets. In her spare time, she loved to quilt and her family is the recipient of many of those beautiful quilts; which they will cherish forever. As her children, we are eternally grateful for her, the invaluable lessons she taught us and the unconditional love she provided us. Patti is survived by her children, Becky Jeppesen, Lisa Taylor, Jesse (DaNae) Rock, Jr., Steven (Valerie) Rock, Jonathan C. Rock, MD (Patrick Dela Cruz); eight grandchildren, Shane, Michael, Robert, Shannon, Desiree, Victoria, Samantha and Tyler; and three great-grandchildren, Kru, Weston and Kylee; one sister, Ann Bryant and one brother, Lewis (Karen) Jones. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and one sister, Betty Lou Walker. We wish to thank those who lovingly and skillfully cared for her: Patrick, Jon, Lisa, Dr. John Markeson, AFI Hospice and the staff at Country Lane. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Brigham City Cemetery, 300 East 300 South. The family will meet with friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, UT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Society or the Humane Society of Utah.
