Charles J. Beauvais, 85, left us to be with his loving wife Margaret, on July 9, 2006. Charles was born Aug. 10, 1920 in Salt Lake City, UT to John Milburn Beauvais and Drucilla May Parker. Charles was one of five children raised in the family homes in Yuma, AZ and Salt Lake City, UT.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and went to Gunnery School.
He and Margaret were married Oct. 15, 1941. Charles and Margaret were married for 61 years. They had three children, Cheryl, Denise and Frank.
An excellent mechanic, he went on to become an aircraft bombsight specialist, serving in India during World War II. After the war ended, he decided to make the military his career and was sent to Brazil as a liaison in aircraft maintenance. His ingenuity and development in jet engine maintenance resulted in an offer of a direct commission to 1st Lt. in the U. S. Air Force. He was stationed at Mt. Home AFB, then on to Japan, Texas, and the Dominican Republic. He was a skilled troubleshooter and went TDY (temporary duty) to many exotic places to oversee recovery of stranded aircraft of all types. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1963.
Once retired, he moved to Tucson, AZ and earned his Bachelors degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona. He then went to work for the American Red Cross and was based at Camp Pendleton, CA. The family moved to nearby Vista while Charles served in Vietnam for one year. Upon his return he took a permanent position with San Diego County as a social worker, doing what he loved, helping others.
Charles did not fit the old adage "Jack of all trades, master of none". He was an accomplished artist, gunsmith, musician, author, wood worker and mechanic and loved to bowl and golf with Margaret.
Charles is survived by his three sisters; Edith Wilbanks and Alice Miller of Fort Worth, Donna (& Bud) Winchester of San Diego; daughter Denise (& James) Armitage of Boise; son Frank (& Cheri) Beauvais of Nampa; son-in-law George Hovey of Tucson; son-in-law Christopher Young of Emmett; seven grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
Charles wishes a fond farewell to all his golf and bowling buddies. He also wanted to thank all the kids at Emmett High School for their kindness while he tutored. Charles always enjoyed working with young adults. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Vetter and the staff at Heart and Home for their caring professionalism. A Celebration of Life Reception was July 16, 2006 at Charles and Margaret's home, Emmett. The family invites Charles friends to come and share a story or two, as storytelling was one of his favorite pastimes.
