2009 obituary. AUBURN-Marie Pratt Adams, 80, died peacefully on January 26 at Clover Manor surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born on January 28, 1928 in Turner, daughter of Henry and Albina (Albert) Pratt. Throughout her lifetime, she held many happy memories of the time her family lived in Howes Comer when she was a young girl.Marie married Wesley Adams, her husband of 60 years, on May 8, 1948 whom she met while enjoying the Saturday night dances in Canton Point. They lived in Canton where they made a home for their four children. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is fondly remembered by her children as always being at home for them before and after school. She sewed much of the clothing for her two young daughters as well as the clothing for their dolls. In addition, she knitted many hats and pairs of mittens, crocheted many afghans, and tended to countless scraped knees. She loved animals, the outdoors and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and routinely preserved the fruits and vegetables for winter enjoyment. She was well known for her pies and in her lifetime her family enjoyed the more than 6000 apple pies she baked along with other varieties. She routinely baked pies for the Canton Point Ladies Circle and other local functions. Marie was a 'Jane of all Trades'. As a young woman she worked at the Bleachery in Lewiston. Over the years, she worked as a chambermaid at the Pinewood and Lakefield Camps in Canton, picked corn, packed apples, toothpicks, and eggs, worked in a shoeshop, laced handmade moccasins at home, worked at the Canton tannery, was a cashier at a local grocery store, and was a cook at Victoria Villa in Canton. In her retirement she took painting lessons and created several works of art her children enjoy in,their homes. She will be sorely missed. Survivors include her husband; two sons; two daughters; one brother; two sisters. Also surviving are four grandchildren; four great grandchildren. Marie's family would like to thank the staff on Side 2 and Side 3 at Clover Manor for their wonderful care and love shown to their mother during her illness.
