[US Navy Burial Records, 1898-1932 indicate that upon his death Arthur was buried in Brest (Kerfautras) Cemetery, Saint-Martin-des-Champs, Departement du Finistère, Bretagne, France. In 1920, after WWI ended, Arthur was returned to the United States and buried in Forest Home Cemetery.]

During the 1914-18 War, Brest was United States Naval Headquarters in France, and the main port of debarkation from United States transports. Arthur was killed while serving there. He was an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve Force (class 5).

Arthur married Evelyn Glass on 16 Jan 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama. They had one daughter, Evelyn Byrd Boorse who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 21 August 1918, the same day Arthur died.

From The Atlanta Constitution (Atlanta, Georgia) 24 Aug 1918 p10:

Washington, August 22 -- Deaths of three ensigns and three enlisted men in seaplane accidents in France were announced tonight by the navy department...(Arthur was one of them).

In the same article, labeled: Birmingham, Ala.,August 23 -- Ensign Arthur L Boorse, killed in a sea plane accident abroad, was formerly a prominent automobile dealer here. He is a son-in-law of Frank P Glass, president of the American Newspaper Publishers' association, and came to Birmingham from Milwaukee.
