From The Charlevoix Courier, Wednesday, April 11, 1917:
MRS. SAUMSBY [sic] DIED AS RESULT OF CANCER
Resort Township Woman Passes Away at her Home.
Mrs. Mark Saumsby [Saunby] died last Saturday at her home in Resort Township, Emmet County, after a several months struggle with a fatal cancer.
Etta Yahr was born January 31, 1870 at Waterloo, Ontario, and when a child came to Michigan with her parents, where they located in Barry County, moving to Charlevoix County in 1882, where they purchased a farm in Hayes Township.
She was married the 16th of February 1890, to Mark Saumsby and they resided on their farm in Hayes Township until they moved to Petoskey, remaining there a couple of years, after which they purchased a small farm in Resort Township, where the deceased lived at the time of her death.
Her husband and little daughter, Ruth, survive her, her brothers, Edward and Fred Yahr and sister, Mrs. Shauntz [Schantz]of Bayshore; another brother, John Yahr, of Grayling, and a sister, Mrs. John Billeau of Resort Township.
Mrs. Saumsby was a devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her neighbors and friends. The funeral services were held from the home Tuesday last, at ten o’clock.
