BUXTON - Alfred Paul Short, 89, of Earnhardt Drive, passed away on Nov. 5, 2015, at the Barron Center in Portland. He was born in Buxton on June 10, 1926, the son of the late Alfred and Harriette (Brown) Short.
After attending elementary school in Buxton and graduating from Westbrook High School, Alfred went on to proudly serve in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Terror, where he was a Machinist Mate Third Class.
After the war, Alfred worked for several years at S.D. Warren. Later, he owned and operated a refrigeration company. He also served as a deputy constable for the Town of Buxton.
Alfred enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson & riding with the Timberline Riders, racing snowmobiles, taking trips to Florida, automobiles, horses and hunting.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne; brother, Herbert Short; and a son, Alfred S. Short.
Alfred is survived by his children, Jennifer Gaynor of Buxton, Deborah Bennett of Dayton, Katherine Hanna of Buxton, Harry Short of Gorham, Dixie Short of Buxton, Kellie Short of Buxton and Jodie Short of Newfield; sister, Beverly Ridley of Buxton; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m., at Highland Cemetery, Church Hill Road in Buxton, with military honors. Arrangements are with Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service, Buxton. Online condolence messages can be submitted at the funeral home's website
