Harry “Juny” Lee Durst age 89, of Mitchell died Friday, August 28, 2015 surrounded by family at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, three months after being diagnosed with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Will Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Burial will be at the American Legion Cemetery.
Harry Lee Durst Jr. was born July 7, 1926 in Rugby, ND to Harry and Alice (Lang) Durst. In 1927, the family moved from North Dakota to a farm south of Fedora, South Dakota. The year 1930 brought the family to Mitchell, where he attended school 1st through 12th grades. In 1944, Harry was drafted into the service and elected to be in the Navy. After being discharged in 1946, Harry worked various jobs in the Mitchell area until 1948, when he became employed by his brother Wilber (Tor) Durst as an auto mechanic at Durst Garage for the next 50 years. Harry married Grace Esser in 1953 at the Holy Family Catholic Church.
Harry loved to hunt and fish. He won several fishing awards from Lake Mitchell. Harry enjoyed feeding the birds and studying them. He enjoyed gardening and repairing small engines as a hobby in his retirement years. Harry was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.
Harry Lee “Juny” Durst was a wonderful man and will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Maureen Wagner, Dorothy Swanson, and Ruth Toland; and three brothers, Wilber (Tor), twins Ralph (Bud) and Robert (Bob).
