Frank Richard Watts, respectfully known as "Mr. Democrat", 87, of Hickory, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton.

Frank was born June 16, 1928 in Catawba County to the late Make Perry Watts and Elizabeth Craig Watts.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Winnie Wilkie Watts, three brothers; Bud, John and Jim Watts, three sisters; Mary Powell, Nellie Watts and Claudia Sipe.

He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Frank was one of the strongest democrats in Catawba County. He was an avid supporter of the Hickory Crawdads. He worked for the City of Hickory 30 plus years and for Bass-Smith Funeral Home for many years. Frank was an outdoorsman and loved rabbit hunting and fishing. He was devoted to his family and took special pride in his granddaughter, Jena. He was generous to anyone in need.

Survivors include two sons; Kenneth Watts and Rick Watts both of Hickory, a daughter, Libby Watts Stroud and husband Tony of Iron Station, and a granddaughter, Jena Watts of Hickory.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Bass-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. David Crump officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
