The prison commission last week paroled Henry Turner, of Breathitt County, sentenced to three years in the penitentiary on a charge of killing his father-in-law, Elijah Howard. He served about one half of the time. The family of Howard petitioned for the parole.

Parole Granted Breathitt County Man on Request of Victim's Children
FRANKFORT, KY. June 4 -- The Board of Prison Commissioners Wednesday paroled Henry Turner, of Breathitt County, who was sentenced three years to the penitentiary on the charge of murdering his father-in-law, Elijah Howard. Turner has served one year and a half. he has a wife and seven children. While Turner's wife was sick and he was returning home from a neighbor's where he had been to get a woman to nurse his wife Howard intercepted him and threatened to kill him if he did not pay him at once for some corn purchased. Howard was drinking at the time and being a dangerous man Turner took no chances, killing him on the spot. All of Howard's sons and daughters, in fact every member of his family, petitioned the board to parole him.

Breathitt County Jury Finds Henry Turner Guilty After Long Deliberation
JACKSON, KY. Feb 25 -- Henry Turner was this morning convicted and sentenced to the penitentiary for killing his father-in-law, Elijah Howard, in this county last summer. The trial was begun las Friday, and was not concluded until late Saturday evening, and the arguments were made at the night session Saturday. Turner is a son of Deputy Sheriff Berry Turner, who lives on the Middle Fork of the Kentucky river in this county.

JACKSON KY. Feb 22 -- The trial of Henry Turner for the murder of Elijah Howard about a year ago, was commenced here this afternoon. Howard was Turner's father-in-law and they got into a difficulty over a corn crop.

Monday was county court, Judge Taulbee presiding. There was the largest crowd we have seen here at any county court for years and a great deal of business was transacted. Tuesday & Wednesday were taken up by the Quarterly Court and a large docket was disposed of. On Thursday the examining trial of James Short, charged with the murder of Elijah Howard, was held and Short was required to answer in bond of $1,000, which he gave.

Elijah Howard was shot and killed near his home on Mill Creek, about ten miles from here, Tuesday, by Henry Turner, his son-in-law. The trouble came up over a trivial matter. Turner gave himself up to the authorities and is now awaiting the action of the Grand Jury. He claims self-defense.

Henry Turner Shot and Killed Elisha Howard, His Father-ln-Law.
Owingsville, Ky., Feb 1 -- A telegram states that on Cane creek, Breathitt County, Henry Turner shot and killed his father-in-law, Elisha Howard. The men quarreled over the division of corn owned jointly by them and Howard attempted to take the corn from Turner's possession. This was resented by Turner, who shot his father-in-law through the brain, killing him instantly. Turner disappeared and has not been captured.
