Aaron W. Birdsong, 22, of Grand Haven, Mich., died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, while on temporary active duty at the Fleet Training Center in Norfolk, Va. He was born on Feb. 23, 1979, in Ely to Leonard and Deann (Mattila) Birdsong. He was an electronics technician second class with the U.S. Coast Guard in Grand Haven. Survivors include his wife, Jamie Lou (Drumheller) and stepdaughter, Lili M. Drumheller; his parents, Leonard Jr. and Deann Birdsong of East Point, Fla.; his sister, Amy Birdsong of Atlanta, Ga.; paternal grandfather, Leonard Birdsong Sr. of East Point, Fla.; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Joyce Mattila of Ely. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Birdsong. The funeral was held Saturday in United Methodist Church in Ely, with the Rev. Dana Thompson officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard from Alexandria, Va. The family has requested that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the Lili M. Drumheller College Fund at Wells Fargo Bank, 1218 Commercial St., Astoria, Ore. 97103.
