Mrs. Rose Dykstra, age 92, of Orange City, formerly of Maurice, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, November 10, at 1:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Revs. Donald De Kok and Gary Hegstad will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sherman Township Cemetery, near Maurice.

Alice Rose, the daughter of Ralph and Alice (Cleveringa) Bloemendaal, was born on June 28, 1923, in Orange City. She was raised in Orange City and on a farm north of Alton. She attended the Orange City Christian Grade School, and graduated from the Newkirk High School in 1940. She worked at Vande Steeg’s Store in Orange City and later at the Martin Bomber Plant, near Omaha, Nebraska, during World War II.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence “Lorry” Dykstra on January 8, 1946, in Omaha. The couple first lived on the Dykstra family farm near Orange City and later moved to their own farm north of Maurice, where they raised their five children. Lorry passed away at their home on February 21, 2002. In November of 2005, Rose moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, and in June of this year, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mrs. Dykstra was a prayer warrior, and a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Maurice and in earlier years was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.

Rose kept her mind sharp by reading, doing handwork, and daily completing the Sioux City Journal’s crossword puzzle. She loved spending time with her family, often playing card games with her children and grandchildren, and acknowledged all of their birthdays with a special card. Her positive attitude, encouraging nature, and good sense of humor will be missed.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Terry and Karen Dykstra, of Alton; Allyson and Dan Te Grotenhuis, of Greencastle, Indiana; Philip and Kathy Dykstra, of Maurice; Emilee and Dr. Al Vellinga, of St. Charles, Missouri; and Rochelle “Chelly” and Roy Larson, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren, Lea, and her husband, Adam Hoyhtya, Julie, and her husband, Jim Haack, and Gina, and her husband, Gered De Hoogh; Joshua Te Grotenhuis and Abby, and her husband, Matt Chatelain; Vicki, and her husband, Justin Schrock, Loren Dykstra, and his wife, Melissa, David Dykstra, and his wife, Amanda, and Katie, and her husband, Sean Schuller; Nicole, and her husband, Bo Cook, Ashley, and her husband, Kyle Jackson, and Carlee Vellinga; and David Larson, Daniel Larson, and Andrew Larson; thirty great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Florence Bloemendaal, of Ceres, California.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Wendy Dykstra; four brothers and their wives; and three sisters and their husbands.
