Howard Syverson Long-time resident of Tacoma passed away in Port Townsend March 1 2012. Born in Lewistown Montana August 14 1913 he moved with family to Tacoma in 1919 where he graduated from Lincoln High School-class of 1931. At completion of high school he served first in the Washington National Guard and then in the US Army. He began his 47 plus year career as a blacksmith, retiring as the "resident" blacksmith at Fort Lewis in 1988- age 75. Howard then turned to a life of art, music and service - weekly sharing his time, music and ministry with inmates of the Tacoma jail. For more than 20 years he created his watercolors, sang and played his guitar for the enjoyment of others. He is survived by his brother Ralph Syverson - Edmonds Wa., son Gary Syverson - Port Townsend,daughters Sharon Casterline - Bellevue, Sara Mitchell-Kent and fifteen grand and great grandchildren.
