George Washington Paris is the son of John Henry and Lina Maniza (Jolley) Paris. He first married Mariah J. Bush, daughter of Henry Hobart and Martha A. Bush, on March 23, 1875, in Scotland County, Missouri. They had two children: Della Mae and Jesse William Paris. After Mariah's death in 1881, he married Laura Elmora McDaniel, daughter of John Gideon and Amanda Elizabeth (Barker) McDaniel on September 3, 1888, in Scotland County, Missouri. They farmed in western Scotland County and eastern Schuyler County, Missouri, while raising a family of thirteen children: Grover L. "Sherman", Bessie "Lola", Bertha, Mary Alice, Ada June, Nona "Pearl", Cecil "Earl", Amanda Elizabeth, Dessie "Myrtle", Enos "Oral", George "Frank", Laverne, and Leona Mabel.
