He is survived by his fiancé, Lucille Hunt; son, Robert Alfred Smith; daughter-in-law, Kelly Smith; grandson, Tyler James Smith; mother, Winnie Wilson Smith; brother, Jack Howard Smith; sister, Elizabeth Darlene Bryan and husband Alvey Bryan; brother, David Allen Smith and Brenda Carter; brother, Ralph Eugene Smith and wife Toni Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Sheldon Smith; father, Alfred Eugene Smith; and brother, Larry Wayne Smith. James retired from Stran Steel and Harris County Precinct 3. He was a member of Fairbanks United Methodist Church for 49 years. He was a long time member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Swine Committee.
