GATE CITY, Va. -- Charlie E. Casteel, 68, Route 2, Gate City, Va., died Wednesday (Nov. 6, 1991) at his residence after an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., he was a retired carpenter and attended the Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phelma Janelle Taylor Casteel in 1981; his parents, Willard and Emma Lawson Casteel; three brothers, Cecil Casteel, Vernon Casteel and Cossie Casteel; one sister, Mary Pierson and a half brother, Junior Casteel.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Lawson, Fort Blackmore, Va., and Deborah Ellen Ervin, Gate City, Va.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Nettie Casteel, Gate City, VA.; one sister, Delphia Byrd, North Carolina; two half sisters, Nancy Kerns, Gate City, Va. and Edna Hammonds, Kingsport; three brothers, Kenny Casteel, Maryland, Ralph Casteel and Lucian "Doll" Casteel, both of Fort Blackmore, Va.; two half brothers, John Stallard, Fort Blackmore, Va., and Bruce Casteel, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gate City Funeral Home or anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jay Bowen officiating.
Burial will be in Holston View Cemetery.
