Parents John A.F. Jarrell (b. 25 Jun 1810, NC) and Nancy Ann Burden.
Benjamin was a teacher in Jones County between 1895 and 1905. After the death of his father, he gave up teaching and took over the running of the Jarrell Plantation. He built another house on the plantation of 5,000 square feet to house his large family in 1920, with the help of five of his sons and a couple of nephews.
He also built a milling complex, which included a shingle mill, grist mill, cotton gin, steam sawmill and planer.
In 1974 his nine surviving children donated the plantation to the State of Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources in hopes of preserving the farm and educating future generations about their heritage. Jimmy Carter was the state governor at the time.
